Mr. Otter: Hat Knitting Pattern Inspired by Zootopia

About the Pattern

This Mr. Otter hat pattern is a tribute to everyone’s favorite Disney florist: Emmitt Otterton. Zootopia is one of my favorite modern Disney animated movies, so when there was such a cute sweater involved, it was a no-brainer for me. I found a faux fur pom pom to really make my point. One of these days, I’ll probably get my Mrs. Otter hat ready to publish as well.

For my sample, I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted and got a hat that was sized for a large child or small adult. Since I know plenty of adults will want a Mr. Otter hat of their own, I included gauge information in the pattern to get a slightly larger hat. If you want it a little bigger, try using a yarn like Paton’s Classic Wool Worsted— it’s a little thicker than the Wool of the Andes Worsted.

I have plenty more Disney patterns, too. You may want to start by looking at Cat Hat, Sea Witch, and Droid, please.

Haunted Wallpaper: Hat Knitting Pattern

Haunted Wallpaper Hat

About the Pattern

Can you guess the inspiration for my Haunted Wallpaper hat? I absolutely love the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. There was no way around it, I had to knit a version of the iconic wallpaper. This super-slouchy hat is so fun to wear– it’s a real conversation starter.

You’ll need to be able to do stranded color work from a chart to knit the Haunted Wallpaper hat. It’s not difficult once you get used to holding two yarns at once. When I hold one yarn in each hand, it’s almost as fast as single-color knitting.

If you love Disney as much as I do, you should probably take a look at my Sea Witch, Cat Hat, and Beyond Infinity patterns.

Grandma’s Favorite Dishcloth Free Knitting Pattern

Grandma's favorite dishcloth square

About the Pattern

Grandma’s Favorite Dishcloth is a classic knitting pattern. It is simple to knit, easy to memorize, and easily customizable to any size. The square is knit from corner-to-corner. You’ll cast on at one corner, increase stitches in every row until you’re happy with the size of the first half, then decrease every row until you are at the final corner. To make a baby blanket, just make a big square with a softer yarn.

Grandma’s Favorite Dishcloth is a perfect pattern for meditative or mindful knitting because it is simple to knit and easy to memorize. If you’re practicing meditation or mindfulness in your knitting, but you feel more comfortable with a pattern, save the photo below. I made you a nice-looking version of the pattern that you can save to the photos on your phone. Sometimes I use my current pattern as my lock screen on my phone so I don’t even have to unlock my phone to check my pattern. If you prefer a printed pattern, enter your email below to download a printer-friendly version.

Reap What You Sow: Worsted Weight Triangle Shawl Free Knitting Pattern

Reap What You Sow outstretched

About Reap What You Sow Shawl

The Reap What You Sow shawl is a top-down triangle shawl knit with a strand of worsted and strand of lace weight held together throughout. I chose this name because the ribbing reminds me of perfectly planted rows of crops, which made me think of sowing and reaping, you can see where I’m going here. Anyway, I also love the idea that you get back from a situation equal to what you put in. So, do the best you can in every situation and then reward yourself with some knitting time!

If you like worsted weight shawls, you may like my square shawl, Manta. If you’re in to triangle shawls and like fingering weight, I suggest Downtime, Love Frenzy, or Everywhen.

The only place to get the Reap What You Sow shawl pattern is below, but I did add it to Ravelry for knitters who like to stay organized over there.

Hooded Herringbone Stitch Pocket Scarf Knitting Pattern

hooded pocket scarf

About the Hooded Pocket Scarf

This hooded pocket scarf is perfect for cold weather because it is long enough to use the pockets while the scarf is doubled around your neck. The hood looks good up or down, it never looks like the scarf is hanging off your head. I’ve actually used the pocket as a cup holder when I needed my hands free to help one of my kids with something. You’ve got to love multi-use pockets!

I love a hooded pocket scarf layered with a light jacket, because it can keep you really warm when you’re outside but it’s easy to take of when you go inside. Layering knits is one of my favorites because there’s no such thing as too many knits. Try layering this scarf with a sweater and tell me I’m wrong!

The scarf is knit in one piece from end to end, with the pockets and hood folded and seamed together at the end. I used Cascade 220 for my sample and it’s extra warm.

If you’re interested in another textured pattern with pockets, check out the free pattern for my pocket shawl Inanna.

Water Bottle Sling Knitting Pattern

knit water bottle holder upright

About the Knit Water Bottle Holder

Who couldn’t use a knit water bottle holder? Doesn’t everyone bring their hydration everywhere these days? This convenient carrier has a cross-body strap for a truly hands free experience.

This piece is knit in the round from the top down and the strap is knit separately then sewn on. I knit mine using double pointed needles, but you could easily use magic loop or two circulars if you prefer.

When my big kids were little we would go to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle almost weekly. I got tired of stopping to dig water bottles out from under the stroller every five minutes, so I made each of them a carrier. They loved how many compliments they got from people at the zoo. I just made the straps shorter for them to keep from banging their knees with a full bottle.

I knit this one in Lily Sugar and Cream 100% cotton, but for my crochet version I used wool. Both finished products were great, so you’re probably safe using your favorite worsted weight yarn. You can see the free crochet pattern on Ravelry and Love Crafts.

If you’re interested in small, giftable projects that don’t have to fit a specific person, check out my tutorials for scrunchies, hair ties, ear warmers, and headbands.

Sea Witch: Hat Knitting Pattern

Sea Witch hat with Ursula

About Sea Witch Hat

The Sea Witch hat was inspired by one of the greatest Disney villains of all time: Ursula from The Little Mermaid. Make your Disney photos even more magical with a unique hat. Perfect for Disneybounding, Instagramming, and vacation photos. Knit one for the poor unfortunate soul in your life!

Due to the size of the colorwork chart, the pattern is written in one size and two gauges are given to achieve either a child size or an adult size hat. The sample shown uses Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted and fits snug on my 22.75 in (58 cm) head. If I was to make myself another one, I’d choose a slightly thicker worsted weight yarn like Knit Picks Twill to make the finished hat slightly larger.

If you like Disney-themed knits, you may want to check out my Cat Hat, Beyond Infinity, or Droid, Please.

Cat Ears Hat Knitting Pattern

Cat Hat

About the Cat Hat

I made this Cat Hat to wear to Disneyland for cute photos because I love the Cheshire Cat. This was back when we were full time RVers and we spent a lot of time in SoCal. We are a family of Disney fanatics, so I had plenty of people to wear my Disney hats around the parks. A couple of my favorites are Sea Witch and Mr. Otter (Ravelry links) [Love Crafts: Sea Witch, Mr. Otter; Etsy: Sea Witch, Mr. Otter]. Of course, you can easily modify this hat to make any color cat you want. A black cat for Halloween, perhaps?

The best thing about this hat is the construction of the ears, they stand up on their own. Ear stitches are picked up and knit in the round directly on the finished hat, so there’s no attaching to worry about, either.

I knit mine with Knit Picks Preciosa Tonal Worsted, but the colors I used aren’t available anymore. If I was going to substitute another yarn, I’d choose Knit Picks Swish Worsted and swatch to see if I need to adjust needle size to get gauge. Swish is soft and I don’t like my forehead to get itchy.

Wonder Woman Hat Knitting Pattern

Wonder Woman hat front

About Wonder Woman Knit Hat

I designed this Wonder Woman knit hat pattern as a fun way to show off my favorite super hero. Stranded color work, stripes, and chevron shaping recreate all the iconic details of Wonder Woman’s outfit. When I was a kid I had Wonder Woman Underoos, this hat is a more visible way to express my love now that I’m grown! I love creating knitting patterns inspired by my fandoms, for example Beyond Infinity and Droid, Please. Without a doubt, one of the best things about knitting is the ability to make things that show off your personality. It’s so fun to express yourself through your knits!

This hat is derived from my Wonder Woman cardigan pattern. The cardigan is certainly amazing and I wanted to offer something just as fun for knitters who weren’t ready to commit to a fingering weight sweater. A worsted weight hat was just what we needed. I chose Knit Picks Brava for mine.

Wonder Woman Cardigan Knitting Pattern

wonder woman cardigan back

About the Wonder Woman Cardigan

This Wonder Woman cardigan is so fun to wear! It features all the iconic details of Wonder Woman’s outfit in a super wearable sweater. Besides being adorable, this sweater is comfortable and lightweight enough to layer in different climates.

One of my favorite things about knitting is the ability to make things that really show my personality. I mean, if it’s chilly out you may as well be wearing a Wonder Woman sweater, right?

This is a frontless cardigan, meaning that the two fronts do not meet in the center. I think it’s the perfect shape because I always wear a Wonder Woman graphic tee with mine. Subtlety is not one of my strengths!

If you aren’t ready to take on a fingering weight sweater project, I also designed a worsted weight hat with the same motifs. Check out this post with my Iron Man color palette if you want to see a super hero sweater I made but never finished the pattern for.
