Love Frenzy: Triangle Shawl Knitting Pattern

Love Frenzy shawl wrapped with tails in front

About Love Frenzy Shawl

You’re going to love the Love Frenzy shawl! I knit mine 100% in front of the tv, so I guess you can say it’s good quarantine knitting. Squishy texture is fun to knit and shows off speckled yarn beautifully. The main color is Frenzied by Dyed in the Wool Yarn Co and some of the speckles are neon yellow, which made it the natural color choice for the stripes. It’s such a fun color combo. Love Frenzy shawl features a knit-on border of triangles that start large on the first half and get smaller and smaller on the second half. It gives a unique look when you wrap the shawl around and let the tails hang in front. Love Frenzy is equally fun to knit and to wear. Don’t forget to use #LoveFrenzyShawl if you post your project on Instagram!

Yarn Color Palette: New Orleans Square

New Orleans Square at Disneyland with a coordinating yarn color palette.

New Orleans Square Yarns

New Orleans Square is one of my favorite lands at Disneyland and it’s the inspiration for this yarn color palette. When I design a knit shawl for New Orleans Square, I’m going to include arches and stripes. I like these shapes because they evoke the feeling of walking among the arched doorways and balconies. This color palette takes me right back to Disneyland and wandering through New Orleans Square. I chose one of my go-to yarns for this color palette, Hawthorne Fingering Multi by Knit Picks, in Kenton, Woodstock, Skyline, and Macadam. Hawthorne is a high-twist yarn that is washable and budget-friendly- what’s not to love!?!

Knit Picks Hawthorne is a very wearable yarn. You could easily use this yarn color palette to knit a shawl, hat, sweater or socks. I knit one of my favorite cardigans with Hawthorne and I love how easy it is to take care of. These colors would fade together nicely or work well as stripes, the possibilities are endless. Use this color palette to knit yourself the perfect, subtle Disney accessory for everyday wear.

Other Disney Yarn Palettes and Patterns

I’m working on a series of Disney-inspired yarn color palettes which will eventually be a series of shawls (or maybe other accessories). This is a project to channel all of my Disney energy while I can’t actually go to Disneyland. By the time I get back there, I’m going to need an extra suitcase just for all of the knits I need to photograph! It’s a good thing my family is on board with my yarnie antics! You can see some of my other Disney yarn color palettes here: Fantasyland, Frontierland, and just for fun- Iron Man!

Yarn Color Palette: Frontierland

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland with a yarn palette in greens, brown, and coral.

I had to create a Frontierland yarn color palette. Frontierland at Disneyland is home to my favorite ride, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. You’ll recognize the coral, green, and brown of that ride in my color palette. The Frontierland yarn color palette includes Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering Kettle Dye in Daphne, Conifer, and Faun; and Knit Picks Hawthorne Tonal Handpainted in Springfield. Hawthorne is one of my favorite fingering weight yarns for its high twist and easy care. (80% Fine Superwash Highland Wool, 20% Polyamide.) I knit my Wonder Woman cardigan in Hawthorne and it is comfy to wear as well as easy to care for.

I love knitting projects that are based on pop culture, and Disney is one of my favorite sources of inspiration. Every time I go to Disneyland, I bring a new stack of knits to take pictures of. My plan is to design shawls for every land at Disneyland and California Adventure. Check out the color palettes I chose for Fantasyland and New Orleans Square. If you want to work on some Disney knitting in the meantime, I already have hat patterns for a lot of my favorite Disney attractions and characters. Check out my Pineapple Whip, Fear, Cheshire Cat, and Chipmunk Acorn hats on Ravelry. (My patterns are also available on Love Crafts and Etsy.)

Yarn Color Palette: Fantasyland

Fantasyland yarn color palette featuring Sleeping Beauty Castle.

This Fantasyland yarn color palette is like walking down Main Street at Disneyland and seeing Sleeping Beauty’s castle waiting for you at the end. Looking at these colors takes me right to that place and I love it. It’s so fun to create your own accessories that are meaningful to you. That is my motivation for creating all kinds of Disney color palettes. These colors of Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering Kettle Dye are: Wisp, Delphinium, Camellia, Compass, and Slate. Hawthorne is one of my favorite fingering weight yarns for its high twist and easy care. (80% Fine Superwash Highland Wool, 20% Polyamide.) My Wonder Woman cardigan is knit in Hawthorne, it is so cozy to wear and easy to wash!

My plan is to design shawls for every land at Disneyland and California Adventure. If you like this Fantasyland yarn color palette, check out my Frontierland and New Orleans Square color palettes. Stay tuned for updates as I work my way through the list. If you want to work on some Disney knitting in the meantime, I already have hat patterns for a lot of my favorite Disney attractions and characters. Yarn Color Palette: Iron Man

Yarn color palette in red, black, yellow, and turquoise with Iron Man

Here is the Iron Man yarn palette I’ve come up with For a new sweater. Below are some pictures of my original Iron Man sweater. It was so much fun to knit! I still have pages and pages of handwritten notes from when I started to grade the pattern.

I brought my sweater to Disneyland and took some photos. I felt like Tony Stark. Don’t you think I need an updated version for when the new Marvel Land opens? My new Iron Man yarn palette includes black, which I think will be a nice update to go with the new Land!

This is one of my most detailed patterns. The saddle shoulders and reverse stockinette texture at the top of the arm mimic the pieces of Tony’s suit. It was based on the suit from the first movie, I’m thinking it’s probably called Mark II? Whether I do a shawl or a sweater, I’m definitely going to choose a suit with more gold this time.

The highlight was meeting Thor in my sweater. Who am I kidding, though? That would have been the highlight even without the sweater!

The Yarn I picked is Lang Yarns Jawoll in colors 4, 279, 61, and 339. It’s available on Love Crafts. I have color palettes picked out for some of my favorite lands at Disneyland, also. Check out my picks for Fantasyland and Frontierland.

Inanna Pocket Shawl Free Knitting Pattern

Inanna pocket shawl

Inanna

An extra large knit pocket shawl is the perfect cold-weather accessory. You’ll love wrapping up in this shawl all fall and winter! Inanna is generously sized and has roomy pockets to stash your phone or book.

Method and Yarn

Inanna pocket shawl is simple to knit but still keeps you interested. Your finished wrap has a polished look thanks to the continuous i-cord on all four sides. But don’t worry! You don’t have to knit a mile of i-cord onto the edges! First, you’ll use an i-cord cast-on. Then, you’ll create a simple i-cord edge over a few stitches at the beginning and end of each row. Finally, you’ll finish with an i-cord bind-off. The smooth border levels up your piece from “homemade scarf” to “hand knit wrap.”

Wear your Inanna casually or dressed up. It is perfect as an outer layer on cold days, or to wrap up in it at the movies (are all movie theaters freezing, or is it just me?). Adding the optional pockets will make it your ultimate lounging wrap! The pockets are large so you can keep your necessities at hand while you’re relaxing at home.

Inanna uses 2 skeins of Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool. I used my favorite color, Nature’s Brown.

I wanted to give you something that you could use over and over – whether that means wearing your Inanna over and over, or knitting it over and over for all your loved ones. I hope you find the simple design to be a classic you can return to time and again.

Off the Grid: Throw Blanket Knitting Pattern

Off the Grid knit throw blanket on a chair

This knit throw blanket is beginner-friendly and looks equally nice on both sides. If you can knit and purl, then you can make this throw! I knit mine using two balls of Caron One Pound. The acrylic yarn makes your blanket easy to care for, and therefore a great gift.

Manta: Square Shawl Knitting Pattern

Square Shawl Inspiration

Get the pattern for FREE here!

I designed Manta because I wanted a big square shawl that was as cozy as a blanket. The stitch patterns aren’t too lacy, so the shawl has the feel of a blanket. I chose worsted weight yarn to give it the heft and warmth I was looking for. This square shawl is like wearing a blanket, but still looking good! Manta is knit using one skein of Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool and 4 skeins Paton’s Classic Wool (2 skeins each of 2 different colors).

Wearing a Square Shawl

Square shawls are versatile. You can wear your shawl wrapped all the way around so it overlaps in front. This is how I wear mine when I’m trying to quickly look put-together.

Manta square shawl pattern

When you wear a square shawl simply draped over your shoulders, the shape keeps it from slipping off. The extra fabric also keeps you warmer than a triangle shawl.

Yarn Color Palette: Vintage Christmas

Vintage Christmas yarn palette

I created this vintage Christmas color palette because September feels like an appropriate time to start thinking about Christmas knitting. I’d love a new Christmas blanket to wrap up in, but I don’t think I’m going to have time this year. I could probably pull off a table runner, though. The colors in these vintage Christmas cards would make the perfect stripes. About 12 inches wide in stockinette stitch with a one-inch border in garter stitch on all sides to lay flat would be just right. All garter stitch would be even simpler, but I just can’t resist the look of stockinette. Hmm… now that I’ve mentally knit one I want to knit a real one.

I chose Paintbox Yarns 100% Wool Worsted for this vintage Christmas color palette. The colors are: Red Wine, Slate Green, Washed Teal, Spearmint Green, and Rose Red. Available at Love Crafts.

Another idea I have is to knit my square shawl, Manta, in these vintage Christmas colors and let it do double duty as a Christmas tree skirt. There is no shortage of Christmas knitting projects. Everyone loves a hand knit stocking or a Santa hat. The beauty of knitting your own is that you can use different combinations of yarns from the same color palette. That way your family has a coordinating set without exactly matching.

Everyone: Striped Half Pi Shawl Knitting Pattern

Everyone shawl outstretched

About Everyone

Do you have a couple of skeins of fingering weight that look great together? Is one variegated and one solid or semi-solid? Well, I have just the pattern for you! Everyone is a top-down, half-pi shawl that uses surprisingly simple techniques to achieve stunning results. This is a full-size, wrap-yourself-in-love kind of shawl. One of my favorite things about this pattern is that it uses up both skeins equally. I don’t know why, but it makes me sad to have half a skein leftover when its coordinating skein is all used up. So, if you share that quirk with me, you’ll love this pattern.

You’ll enjoy the relaxing flow of knitting with almost no counting as you watch your shawl grow into a full-size show-stopper. This pattern features stripes of texture as well as color, therefore it looks best with one variegated skein and one solid or semi-solid skein. The simple techniques in this pattern will delight you with stunning results.

Everyone is knit using Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight. I used the colors Fleece Navidad and Enchanted Forest for mine and it feels like sitting by a Christmas tree. You’ll adore how you feel wrapped up in this yarn. It’s soft and silky and substantial all at the same time. I’m obsessed with it.

This is the second shawl in my Every collection, an exploration of all of my ideas for this stitch pattern. The first shawl, Everywhen, is knit side-to-side and uses short rows to morph from asymmetrical to symmetrical. The third shawl is called Everywear and is also a side-to-side triangle and it also uses short rows to morph from an arrow shape into a triangle.
