Pineapple Whip Hat Knitting Pattern

pineapple whip hat on stand

About the Pattern

I’ll give you one guess where the inspiration for my Pineapple Whip hat came from. Dole Whips are one of the best treats at Disneyland. It seemed like the logical next step to wear your love for them on your head.

The Pineapple Whip pattern is beginner-friendly. If you can knit and purl, and knit in the round, you’re all set. I knit mine with Knit Picks Swish Worsted, it’s nice and soft against your skin.

If you do a photo shoot with your Dole Whip, wearing your Pineapple Whip hat, please, please, PLEASE, put one of the paper drink umbrellas in your hat! The day we took my photos, they weren’t putting umbrellas in them and I’m still sad about it!

While we’re on the subject, I have a few more patterns that are perfect for Disney vacation photos. Take a peek at Beyond Infinity, Haunted Wallpaper, and Cat Hat.

Acorn Hat Knitting Pattern Inspired by Chip and Dale

Chipmunks acorn hat Dale

About the Pattern

Chip and Dale love this acorn hat. Don’t believe me? See my photographic evidence at the bottom of this post. I crammed in as many acorns as I could fit, just like a chipmunk would do!

This hat is especially cute when knit in a pair. I did one in a lighter brown with a big red pom pom, and one in a darker brown with a small black pom pom. Just like Chip and Dale! Mine are made with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted in colorways: Chestnut for Dale and Chocolate for Chip. For a softer acorn hat, try Knit Picks Swish Worsted. Side note: I remember which chipmunk is which by knowing that Chip’s nose is like a chocolate chip.

I have more patterns for Disney fans, too. Take a peek at Sea Witch, Beyond Infinity, and Haunted Wallpaper.

Cars Hat Knitting Pattern inspired by Pixar

three car eyes hats

About the Pattern

I designed this Cars hat for Cars Land at Disney’s California Adventure. The immersive experience of the land is certainly incredible and I wanted to be a part of it. When all the neon lights come on at sunset it is a highlight of the day. You will feel like you belong among the cars when you’re wearing this hat!

It’s easy to make your favorite car with the Car Eyes pattern because all you have to do is change the color accordingly. Another feature that makes the cars hat pattern versatile is that it includes child and adult sizes. Don’t let my photos fool you, though. I made all 3 of my samples in adult size and put them on my kids anyway! Now the same kids are teenagers, so I can bring the big hats for them on our next trip. It all worked out despite my poor planning!

My samples are all knit in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes worsted. If you want a softer yarn, Knit Picks Swish worsted would be a great substitute.

For more Disney knitting fun, see my Warrior, Ariel, and Mr. Otter patterns.

About the Pattern

For the Love of Mouse is a hat for all Disney fans! This free pattern features textured Mickey heads all over. It includes instructions for three sizes, so you can make your family a matching set!

The Mickey pattern on For the Love of Mouse is made with simple knits and purls. So even if you’re a beginner you can knit this adorable hat.

I’m a huge Disney fan and it definitely finds its way into my knitting patterns. When we were full-time RVers we spent a lot of time in SoCal. Many of my Disney patterns were created because I wanted to wear them to Disneyland. On the really hot days I’d take my hat off for a few hours in the afternoon, but I always had one with me! If you love Disney knits too, look at Haunted Wallpaper, Warrior, and Cat Hat.

Riveras to Remember: Wrap Knitting Pattern Inspired by Coco

Riveras to remember on a table

About the Pattern

The Riveras to Remember wrap is inspired by the Disney•Pixar movie Coco. Each color and stitch pattern corresponds to one aspect of the movie.

The orange section at either end of the wrap has a subtle texture representing the flower petals that make up the bridge to the land of the dead.

The white speckled section is filled with lacy skulls to represent everyone Miguel meets in the land of the dead.

The black and colorful section has a feather and fan pattern reminiscent of the beautiful scenery and arching architecture of the land of the dead. I just love the details in the land of the dead. Have you noticed all the hidden skull shapes?

This fingering weight wrap is nice and wide, but also fine enough to wear around your neck as a scarf. All of the yarns I used in my Riveras to Remember are by Knit Picks. Color A: 2 skeins Alpaca Cloud Fingering in Harriet (100% Superfine Alpaca; 200 yd/ 50 g), Color B: 1 skein Stroll Hand Painted in Red Wing Blackbird (75% Fine Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon; 462 yd/ 100 g), Color C: 1 skein Hawthorne Speckle Hand Paint in Jupiter Speckle (80% Superwash Fine Highland Wool, 20% Nylon; 357 yd/ 100 g)

Warrior: Shawl Knitting Pattern Inspired by Mulan

mulan inspired warrior shawl

About the Pattern

The Warrior shawl is an asymmetrical triangle inspired by Disney’s Mulan. You start at one corner and increase until you have a full triangle. It knits up quickly in DK weight yarn with a variety of simple textures. I used Knit Picks Swish DK for my Warrior shawl. It’s such a soft and wearable yarn. There is a fun little column of marled stitches where the dark green meets the light green. I love little details that add interest to a project.

If you love Disney-inspired shawls, check out Ariel and Droid, Please. For Disney hats, I suggest Sea Witch or Mr. Otter.

Grand Rapids: Ruffled Triangle Shawl Knitting Pattern

grand rapids shawl heart

About the Pattern

My Grand Rapids shawl is named after the lettuce! The first sample I knit was in a green variegated yarn and the ruffled edge reminded me of lettuce. So I googled types of lettuce and found a name I liked. Too bad my favorite photo of this pattern is a red one! Oh well. Naming patterns has never been my strong suit!

This shawl has so much squish! With all that garter stitch and the ruffled edge, you’ll never want to stop squeezing this shawl. Make sure you choose and extra squishy yarn like Capretta for maximum results with your Grand Rapids shawl.

This shawl is knit from the top down, mostly in garter stitch. There are some dropped stitch sections to give it a bit of a lacy look, which pairs nicely with the ruffled border. Overall, this beginner-friendly pattern is a relaxing knit.

Ariel – A Mermaid Scaled Shawl Knitting Pattern

mermaid shawl display

About the Mermaid Shawl Pattern

This fun mermaid shawl is called Ariel, it’s one of my many Disney-inspired patterns. Ariel is a half-circle and the pattern includes instructions for two sizes. The smaller size is 36.5 inches across and 14.5 inches tall, the larger one is 45 inches across and 18 inches tall. Whether you want a kerchief style or a full-size shawl, this pattern has you covered. Ariel is knit from the bottom up, which I think is fun because when you are almost done the rows are super short. It makes for a fun race to the end!

I knit my mermaid shawl in wool, but it would also be amazing knit in cotton for summer. How perfect would it be wrapped around your waist over a swimsuit?

If you’re looking for more Disney-inspired patterns, check out Sea Witch and Haunted Wallpaper.

Spring Stripes: Lightweight Triangle Shawl Knitting Pattern

spring stripes held

About the Pattern

Spring Stripes is one of my earliest shawl patterns. It’s so lightweight with sections of mesh separated by stripes of stockinette stitch. It’s a perfect warm-weather accessory. This shawl is knit from the top down and is finished with an i-cord bind-off. The pattern is easy to memorize, making it great TV knitting.

I made mine with Yummy Fingering by Candy Skein. The colors I used were Sage, Banana, and Grape Fizz. Way back in March 2015 when I designed this shawl, fades weren’t really a thing yet. Looking at it now I think this is the perfect pattern to do a fade. Maybe I should knit up a new Spring Stripes and try it out.

Basic Stocking Cap Free Knitting Pattern

basic stocking cap with pattern square

About the Pattern

This basic stocking cap pattern is as simple as they come. It includes six sizes and is a great base hat pattern to add your own twist to. For example, to elongate the top you can add extra knit rows between the decrease rows. To do the opposite and flatten the top a little, eliminate the knit rows between the last few decrease rows. Additionally, you can play with stripes and texture, throw a pom pom on top… go wild with it!

It is knit with worsted weight yarn at a gauge of 5 stitches per inch. You’ll need to know how to knit and purl, knit in the round, and knit two together to make this basic stocking cap pattern. Some yarns I have used to knit this pattern are Paton’s Classic Wool and Knit Picks Swish Worsted.

I’m trying something new! I made a version of this pattern that prints on one page and then with a few folds and one cut, you have a little booklet that fits in your knitting bag. You can still download the traditional version of the pattern, which is suitable for printing or reading directly from your device. The pattern itself is exactly the same on both versions.
