Vintage Christmas yarn palette

I created this vintage Christmas color palette because September feels like an appropriate time to start thinking about Christmas knitting. I’d love a new Christmas blanket to wrap up in, but I don’t think I’m going to have time this year. I could probably pull off a table runner, though. The colors in these vintage Christmas cards would make the perfect stripes. About 12 inches wide in stockinette stitch with a one-inch border in garter stitch on all sides to lay flat would be just right. All garter stitch would be even simpler, but I just can’t resist the look of stockinette. Hmm… now that I’ve mentally knit one I want to knit a real one.

I chose Paintbox Yarns 100% Wool Worsted for this vintage Christmas color palette. The colors are: Red Wine, Slate Green, Washed Teal, Spearmint Green, and Rose Red. Available at Love Crafts.

Another idea I have is to knit my square shawl, Manta, in these vintage Christmas colors and let it do double duty as a Christmas tree skirt. There is no shortage of Christmas knitting projects. Everyone loves a hand knit stocking or a Santa hat. The beauty of knitting your own is that you can use different combinations of yarns from the same color palette. That way your family has a coordinating set without exactly matching.
