Downtime shawl close up

Description of Downtime Shawl

I designed the Downtime shawl with the winter holidays in mind. As we head into the last month of the year, things are about to get busy for most of us. Almost everyone has at least one holiday to celebrate this time of year and that means planning, parties, shopping, and general busyness. Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a simple and satisfying project that was easy to pick up whenever you have a few spare minutes? Imagine how it could help you maintain your peace through the end of the year.

Downtime was designed to be easy to pick up for a few minutes here and there in your downtime (see what I did there?). A simple two-row stitch pattern and clever placement of a stitch marker to track your increases mean that you never need to remember which row you left off at.

Downtime uses two skeins (800 yd) of fingering weight yarn in the same color. This shawl is knit side-to-side and features a continuous i-cord edge that is worked as you go. The texture alternates between luxuriously squishy slipped stitch rib and garter stitch, so just when you tire of one stitch you get to switch it up and prevent boredom.

Pick up your copy of Downtime today and cast on now so you’ll be ready to take a well-deserved knit break when the holiday season kicks into full swing.
